The Time When Orthodoxy Will Prevail Is Near
Let us remember that there are not only natural laws, but also spiritual laws.
Therefore, the wrath of God cannot be appeased by cooperation among sinners (for that would bring even greater wrath), but only through repentance and obedience to the commandments of the Lord.
Elder Sophronius of the Holy Mountain (†1993) said in Essex, England, much like Saint Paisios:
“The union of the Churches is difficult, if not impossible. Those who speak of such a union do not understand the mindset of the heterodox, nor the depth of Orthodoxy.”
Saint Paisios the Athonite, having knowledge of these things, advised everyone to remain cautious and patient, because the time will come when the Lord will raise up true Orthodox confessors, like a new Saint Mark of Ephesus, who will gather together our scandalized brethren, confess the Orthodox Faith, strengthen Holy Tradition, and bring great joy to our Mother Church.
Essentially, the Elder prophesied a truly Orthodox Synod — perhaps the Eighth Ecumenical Council, of which Saint Nilus the Myrrh-Gusher also foretold:
“After the seventh council, an eighth will be convened. It will distinguish the good from the bad — Orthodoxy from heresy — just as the farmer separates the wheat from the chaff. Then there will be a short period of peace on earth, but soon after, people will once again turn toward evil.”
Peace in the world cannot come without the Peacemaker, the living and unadulterated teaching of Orthodoxy.
Although Orthodoxy has continued to shine — even after the fall of Constantinople — its greatest flourishing will come after the Third World War, which Saint Cosmas of Aetolia called the “Great General War.”
This will be the brief yet glorious revival of Orthodoxy, a time when the Faith will shine brightly throughout the world — before humanity once again begins to drift into darkness.
