Aerial Toll Houses – The Reality of Life After Death
Does the Bible say that we are saved by faith alone? No, it does not. Does the Bible say that it is the complete and final revelation of God? No, it does not. What Scripture does say is:
• 1 Timothy 3:15 – “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.â€
• John 14:26 – “But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.†(Jesus tells us that the full truth will be revealed by the Holy Spirit.)
• James 2:26 – “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.â€
The Bible is clear: we must follow the Church of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church does not belong to the Pope, the bishops, or the priests; it belongs to Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcome to participate in it because Christ Himself founded it for our salvation.
Heaven and Hell After the Second Coming
The Kingdom of Heaven and Hell will fully come into being after Christ’s Second Coming. At that time, humanity will once again be both body and soul, and people will experience either the joy of Paradise or the sorrow of Hell.
The only way a Christian can pass safely through the demonic trials after death is by confessing their sins to a priest before they die. There is no reincarnation—this is one of the devil’s deceptions to distract people from the truth. Right now, neither Heaven nor Hell exists in their final form; instead, souls are in an intermediate state, awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
This is not about near-death experiences but about what happens when someone is truly dead. As Father Seraphim Rose taught, we must be cautious about interpreting experiences of light or visions near death. The devil seeks to deceive people, leading them away from the truth. There are even cases where souls appeared to be in hell but were saved through the intense prayers of holy people. However, the final judgment will occur at Christ’s return.
The Third Day After Death and the Toll Houses
On the third day after death, the soul passes through legions of demons who attempt to block its path and accuse it of various sins—sins that they themselves had once tempted it to commit. According to various revelations, there are twenty such obstacles, known as the Aerial Toll Houses, where different kinds of sins are judged.
A prayer for deliverance at the time of death:
“Most Holy Mother of God, at the hour of my death, deliver me from the hands of demons, from their judgment, from their accusations, from the terrible trials, from the bitter toll houses, from the evil prince of darkness, and from eternal condemnation. Amen.â€
“When my soul is about to be separated from my body, intercede for me, O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God.â€
The Role of Good Deeds and the Dangers of Deception
Many sins can be forgiven through repentance and good deeds—especially if someone forgets to confess them. However, Satan uses people in positions of power to spread deception, including false priests, corrupt politicians, and misguided public figures.
To stay on the path of truth, we must remain vigilant in faith, confession, and good works.
