— Vladyka, the first question I would like to ask you is: did you watch the interview of Vladimir Putin with the American journalist Tucker Carlson, and if you did, what interested you in this interview? What caught your attention?
- Yes, of course, I watched the interview. It's very interesting, and I'm one of those people who try to listen to interviews of people who define the history of the world. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is close to me, my man, although we have never met. At every holy liturgy,
I remember the president with his name Vladimir. In the same way, Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Medvedev with his wife Svetlana, I pray for everyone. Svetlana Medvedeva asked me about this once, when we first met in Moscow, and then when she came (to Cyprus - TASS note) on a pilgrimage. And since then, fulfilling her request, I pray for those people who determine thoughts, decisions, actions, right actions, and mistakes and determine the history of all mankind.
So, about the interview. Some observations. First, I was very impressed by the first half hour of the interview. To approach the current Ukrainian problem and Russia-West relations in general, President Putin made a historic foray back a thousand years. I would add that this is purely Byzantine and Oriental. Only leaders who lead a people with an ancient history can talk about modern events in a historical context. Westerners - whether in Europe or America - come from the understanding that politics is primarily about money, pipelines, and geostrategic and geopolitical interests. Whereas Putin in this interview examines the issues on a different basis and makes this the main point of his interview. That is, he says: gentlemen, we have not been here since yesterday or the day before yesterday, we are a historical people, we are great Russians.
The second observation is the end of the interview. It was directly related to that first half-hour historical part when an American journalist asked him [Putin] how you would solve the Ukrainian problem. How will you solve all the problems between Ukrainians and Russians that have arisen as a result of the war? And, if I remember correctly, the president's answer was this: many things unite us - the Orthodox faith, common origin, common language, also Russian, our traditions, our historical path. And if any test is made in the 21st century against the background of these thousand-year-old relations, then everything that unites us is so strong that it will help us heal the wounds of war.
There were many interesting moments during this interview, but I will not comment on them now. I'll just say one thing. [The interview] shows Vladimir Putin, who doesn't want war, he wants peace. It also turns out that the ones pushing for a world war in the coming months and years are the elites of the Western world. I emphasize: not the Western world, but precisely the elites of the Western world
