DO NOT TRUST

EVERY DREAM

Today, many people claim, “God showed me aliens in a dream,” “I saw secret conspiracies,” or “God revealed the future to me.”

The Orthodox Church teaches a very different approach: do not place your trust in dreams.

The Holy Fathers repeatedly warn that most dreams arise from our thoughts, emotions, fears, desires, or imagination. For this reason, an Orthodox Christian does not build his faith upon dreams, visions, or sensational personal revelations.

If God chooses to reveal something important, He knows how to do so. But He does not call Christians to follow every dream or extraordinary claim. Instead, He calls us to live in the life of the Church—with humility, repentance, prayer, confession, and spiritual discernment.

Spiritual deception begins when a person assumes that every dream is a message from God. God’s truth is not given to satisfy curiosity, promote fear, or encourage conspiracy theories. It is given to lead people to repentance, peace, and salvation in Christ.

The Holy Scriptures do contain rare occasions when God spoke through dreams. However, these were exceptional acts of divine providence—not the normal rule for Christian life. This is why the Holy Fathers consistently advise believers to treat dreams with great caution and never to rely on them as a guide for their faith.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” (1 John 4:1)

Do not trust every dream. Trust Christ, and remain firmly rooted in the life and teachings of His Church.
