🔹 1. What is envy (theologically)

In the Orthodox Tradition, envy is a dark spirit born of pride.

When someone envies, he cannot bear to see another person blessed or joyful; he feels as if something is being taken from him.

The Holy Fathers say that envy is “the root of all evils,” because from it came the fall of the devil.

📜 St. John Chrysostom:

“The envious man destroys himself and harms his neighbor.”

🔹 2. What happens when someone “sends” negative energy

When a person has an evil thought toward another (for example, envy, hatred, malice), then:

• He spiritually emits a negative vibration — a dark intention.

• This is not “magic” in the popular sense, but rather the energy of the soul, which works like prayer — only in reverse.

• If the other person is spiritually weak (without prayer, faith, or confession), he can be affected: feeling heaviness, discouragement, negative thoughts, or even misfortunes.

The Fathers call this a “logismiki prosvoli” (attack of thoughts); it is like a spiritual “virus” that finds an entry when there is no protection.

🔹 3. How it works in practice

You can think of it as an energy resonance:

• The envious one “emits” low, dark energy (hatred, jealousy).

• The other, if not united with God, may unconsciously absorb it.

• But if he is prayerful, he creates a reverse flow of light —

that is, the evil “returns back” or dissolves completely.

✝️ As St. Paisios said:

“Prayer is like the sun that burns away the germs of envy and malice.”

🔹 4. How to protect yourself

  1. Daily prayer (“Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me”).
  2. Make the sign of the Cross before leaving home.
  3. Gratitude for what you have — envy cannot touch a thankful heart.
  4. Avoid bad thoughts about others — do not repay evil with evil.
  5. Holy Water, Confession, and Holy Communion.
